Nancy O'Dell started her career in the broadcast industry as an anchor at WPDE-TV, Myrtle Beach South Carolina. Later she was a morning-news anchor as well as crime reporter for WCBD TV. The stories she reported in Charleston regarding the police's tolerance when it comes to DUI cases, prompted the State Law Enforcement Division to investigate. The result was state authorities issuing more strict guidelines in these cases. Ms. O'Dell was recognized by the Associated Press with the Best Report of the Year Awards to all media South Carolina. After her time living in Charleston, O'Dell worked as a co-anchor for NBC's Miami Station WTVJ-TV as well as an investigative journalist. She then became a part of Access Hollywood to work as an anchor on weekends and weekdays. In addition, she serves as a co-anchor on Dateline NBC and NBC News Today. She covered events such as The Oscars, The Emmys, The Grammys, and The Golden Globe Awards. Alongside co-hosting the Pre-ShowArrivals to The Emmys & The Golden Globes. Co-hosted also The Miss USA pageant as well as the Miss USA pageant and the Miss Universe pageant.
